Background info

“Dreamed horizons – Bangkok” is like a visual poem created through the meticulous artistry of analogue photography and double exposure on medium format black and white film.

The photograph unfolds as a visual paradox, with the ancient Thai temple suspended in an inverted orientation. The deliberate choice to flip the temple creates an Escheresque illusion, challenging the viewer’s perception of reality and inviting them into a realm where the ordinary becomes extraordinary.

The result is a poetic dance of light and shadows, reminiscent of a fantastical pen drawing where reality is transmuted into a realm of artistic imagination.

“Almsround” is a visual testament to a transformative year spent in a Thai Buddhist temple with my family.

The piece, delicately printed on linen and encased in an oak floating frame, intricately weaves together the elements of digital double exposure, featuring the serene presence of Thai monks on their alms round.

This work represents the transformative power of cultural immersion and the bonds that can blossom between individuals from different walks of life.

“Threads of Self-Discovery” is an artwork that seamlessly weaves together the elements of a self-portrait on linen and the ancient Japanese art of sashiko embroidery.

In this work I have chosen to employ the ancient Japanese stitching technique of sashiko to embellish this self-portrait. Sashiko, traditionally used for mending and reinforcing fabric, takes on a new and profound meaning in this context. Each stitch becomes a metaphor for the healing process, as I delicately repair the fabric of my own existence.

The repetitive and meditative nature of the stitching mirrors my personal exploration and healing. The act of sewing becomes a therapeutic process, allowing me to confront and reconcile with various aspects of my identity and past. The threads, like time, bind together the wounds and scars of the self-portrait, transforming them into intricate patterns of resilience and strength.
